October 11, 2011 - 11:13am Students from London's Queen Elizabeth’s School will be joining the Cambridge Youth Dance Program on October 22 for an arts exchange and showcase performance. The secondary schools, from Barnet, North London, are winners of the Music for Youth competition in 2009 and performed in the National Finals at the Birmingham Conservatoire and at the Royal Albert Hall. Their trip to Boston is the culmination of 18 months of work in which they have performed for schools and groups throughout the city of London. In addition to visiting Cambridge Youth Dance Company, the dancers and instrumentalists are visiting the New England Conservatory, Harvard University, and Berklee College of Music. The girls’ schools head of dance, Caroline Jakeman, formed the troupe of girls for this trip over a year ago and they perform a variety of genres including modern, jazz and Bollywood. The boys' orchestra is led by Director of Music, Kieron Howe. Both the boys and girls are highly accomplished in their own disciplines, music and dance, and have learned much from working together. The Cambridge Youth Dance Program is a pre-professional dance training program developed and designed for dedicated dance... read more

July 2, 2011 - 2:23pm Cambridge Dance Studio Seeks Community’s Aid in Locating New Home 2011 The Deborah Mason School of Dance and Cambridge [MA] Youth Dance Program is beginning a serious exploration of possible spaces where the organizations could hold classes and programs, with the ultimate goal of becoming the Performing Arts Center of Cambridge. With this in mind, school officials are asking the Cambridge community for assistance in identifying foundations or organizations that could help the dance school and youth program apply for grants for programs and/or space. The school is also appealing to the community for any help or advice in locating and identifying spaces of between 4,000 and 6,000 square feet that would be available for occupancy by the school in January of 2012. The Deborah Mason School of Dance, directed by Deborah Mason Dudley, offers a variety of performing arts classes and levels in ballet instruction, modern dance, hip-hop, tap, jazz, and musical theater. Advanced students can participate in the Cambridge Youth Dance Program, a pre-professional dance company. To help, please contact the studio at office@dmsd.info or call 617.497.1448. read more
