October 15, 2012 - 10:26am Casting/Filming Call for Get Out and Vote video being made here this Tuesday and Wednesday Errol Morris,(Academy award winning documentary film director of Fog of War and Thin Blue Line and Cambridge resident) is making a short non-partisan video to urge young people to turn out to vote in the upcoming election and to fight the efforts to suppress their vote. (You can see an example of Errol’s short video style here in his video for the Academy Awards, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPsNboLCwTY) Errol is looking for 100 young people (approximately 18 to 30 years old and eligible to vote) to be interviewed on film by Errol about why young people should vote and why they shouldn’t let anyone stop them from voting. The plan is to get the video to go viral on YouTube and Facebook in the 10 days before the election. Why do this? · Only about 50% of eligible voters typically turn out to vote. · This year, people are actively trying to suppress voter turnout – to disenfranchise voters. By laws making it harder to vote (limiting polling hours, requiring id cards) and by intimidating voters (by challenging young and minority voters to create long lines, by photographing voters... read more

September 20, 2012 - 1:15pm Right now, there is a car parked in front of 438 Mass Ave. On Friday, September 21, this spot in front of CCTV will be home to a lively community newsroom. For PARK(ing) Day, CCTV's NeighborMedia project will build an outdoor multimedia newsroom featuring a variety of portable, easy to use, media making tools! We’ll work to engage passersby to create short videos, blogs and photos about their vision for Central Square planning and development, posing the question, “What would you like to see in Central Square in 10 years?” All text, photos and audio will be uploaded here in a matter of seconds. Passersby will have a chance to witness the live upload, and will receive a url so that they can return to the site to see media created by others. Big thanks to the City for coordinating this effort, and to the MIT Center for Civic Media for working with us to use vojo.co, a mobile blogging platform designed to make it easy to post content to the web from mobile phones via voice calls, SMS, or MMS. You don't need a smart phone or an app to post blog entries - any phone will do. read more

Mohammad Sayed, a first year participant in this year's summer program, has been at CCTV for the past two weeks working diligently on a new project, "Mahatma, The Great Soul." Today, Sayed came to CCTV to learn the basics of stop motion, which he is planning to incorporate into his video. He's starting his freshman year at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School next week, and planning to be involved in the School Year Production Program at CCTV. In this short video clip, Sayed talks about why he is interested in being a part of the school year program. I interviewed Sayed today and will include a short profile of him in the October-December CCTV Newsletter-- keep your eyes out for it to learn more about him and what he's learning at CCTV! read more
