May 20, 2014 - 10:59am The Hip Hop Transformation is a program for teens ages 14-18 offered by the Cambridge Community Center in partnership with the Cambridge Police Department. THHT teaches teens the history of hip hop, the role hip hop plays in society, and the skills needed to write, record, and perform original music. The summer of 2013 was the pilot season, during which THHT put out a full album available for free at www.TheHipHopTransformation.org. They have performed at the Agassiz Baldwin Hip Hop Festival, City Hall, Cambridge Public Library, and at University Park in a final show hosted by DJ Hustle Simmons of Hot 96.9. Darin “XL” MacEachern, local hip hop artist and one of the artistic advisors from last year, stated “These once apprehensive and nervous kids were able to take all they had learned in a short time and deliver in front of friends, family and total strangers. They may have been nervous, they may have been unsure, but the moment the music began, all the lessons and all the training took over. August 19, 2011 - 4:21pm Fun Day for Miss K is an event held annually by the Cambridge Recreation Department. The event is in remembrance of Janet Kendrick the former Executive Director of the Cambridge Community Center who suddenly passed on July 14, 2008. Three years later she is still remembered for her 25 years of service to the Cambridge Community Center. The kids participated in several activities that included egg races, sack races, sprint relays and a water balloon toss. "Miss K was a beautiful woman who ran a great program," said Director Bob Goodwin, who was responsible for executing the event. At the end of the event each child was given the ribbon pictured above and gathered to say "We love you Ms. K." read more

July 27, 2011 - 1:13pm Thanks to the generosity of individual donors, the Cambridge Community Center (CCC) in Cambridge, Mass. was able to raise $759 for an Energy Star-rated refrigerator on New Generation Energy’s Green Project Listing Site. “NGE has helped the Cambridge Community Center take the first step to being a green center,” said Jose Mendez, CCC’s director of marketing and outreach. “We hope to continue working with NGE to make the center as green as can be.” This refrigerator replaced the CCC’s old inefficient model, and it is expected to save the center $3,862 and 26,422 lbs of CO2 over its lifetime. To celebrate the completion of the project — and the awesomeness of the new fridge — New Generation Energy and the CCC had an ice pop party, which is featured in the photos above. As promised, the CCC is hard at work on planning its next green project. Check back soon for more details — or sign up for our newsletter to get the latest project information. http://newgenerationenergyblog.org/2011/07/25/the-cambridge-community-ce... read more
