A recent Boston Globe article celebrates the impact of Underground Railway Theater’s youth theater program. Youth Underground is currently touring MONEY MATTERS, a co-production with Cambridge Savings Bank and a new play with the goal of increasing financial literacy.
Part of the Cambridge Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program, Youth Underground brings students from diverse backgrounds together to create socially conscious theater. Participants, ages 13 – 18, work as an ensemble to tackle issues that have relevance for their generation and communities. Past productions have dealt with neighborhood and self identity (YOU CAN TELL AT LUNCH) as well as violence and peaceful resistance (SWORDS INTO PLOUGHSHARES).
