UnPlanned: Julian Agyeman, in our globalized world, cities are places where diverse cultures either meld or clash. How do we deal with this diversity and difference, especially as urban planners? Julian Agyeman, professor of urban and environmental planning at Tufts University, walks us through the issues. He deploys the Just Sustainability framework as a way of understanding the world, and as a tool to help planning students hone their craft. He also considers the dual challenge of Becoming and Belonging, and he looks toward the upcoming mayor's race in Boston as a chance to re-narrate the city's story to something more reflective of 21st century realities. Produced by Sam Seidel.

UnPlanned: Sean Hope and Jesse Kanson-Benanav, of all the topics planners grapple with, housing is one of the most demanding, and the creation of affordable housing is even more difficult. Everyone needs a roof over their head, but it can be an expensive proposition and adding to the housing supply in communities can be brutally challenging for a number of reasons. In this episode of unPlanned, we talk to two people who have plenty of experience getting new projects permitted and completed in a variety of contexts. Sean Hope and Jesse Kanson-Benanav walk us through exactly what's involved and share information about projects in Cambridge and Sudbury, MA and why we need to revamp our zoning laws in the state. It's a fascinating look into one of the most basic of all human needs. Produced by Sam Seidel.
