Destructive Nature of Sin
Destructive Nature of Sin
Sin has immense and catastrophic consequences. It has been the fall of kingdoms and many individuals.
Sin has immense and catastrophic consequences. It has been the fall of kingdoms and many individuals. The Scripture says:
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any nation or individual.”
When we look at our turbulent world: the chaos, uncertainties, oppressive regimes spreading across nations of the world, and plunging us more and more closer to “Nuclear Third World War,” it is nothing else, but the destructive consequences of sin.
Sin occurs when humans fail to abide by the will of God: when they fail to listen and obey their conscience and the Spirit of God in them. It was sin that caused the fall of Adam: sin of disobedience. That was why Jesus came to deliver humanity from the grip and power of sin. Despite Jesus dying to salvage humanity from sin, humans still fail to receive the saving knowledge that redeems them from the grip and power of sin.
We feel we don’t need God; we bask in our arrogance, ignorance and feel we are God; we ignore and despise the word of God and say there is no God. The Scripture says: “Because God does not come to pass judgement quickly on the sons of men, they set their hearts to do evil.”
Sin has been the downfall of powerful kingdoms in the world: African kingdoms, Persia, Judah, Greek empire, Roman empire, British and Russian empire. Now we are witnessing the fall of American empire. Now it is China ruling the world. Their own wickedness has already begun: thousands of Muslins are locked up in concentration camps who have done nothing, and the abuse in Hong Kong. The Scripture says:
“Kingdoms will rise and fall until Jesus comes in to set His everlasting kingdom.”
We are witnessing the rise and fall of powerful kingdoms of the world. Their destruction is sin: not abiding by God’s Truth and righteousness, and obedience to His will. We rise in our own stupidity, foolishness, and ignorance; we begin to question the existence of God. We become arrogant because we are in a position of power and authority. Like King Nebuchadnezzar who asked Shedrack, Meshack and Abednego:
“Who is that your God who will deliver you from my hands.”
King Nebuchadnezzar has become so powerful and assumed he was God. Everybody must obey and bow to whatever he says. Well these 3 Jewish godly Christians told the king they can’t bow to his idol. He became furious and threw them into the furnace of fire heated 7 times. Even those who bundled them into the fire were instantly destroyed by the blazing fire. God stepped in and showed king Nebuchadnezzar He alone was God. He was greatly humbled and humiliated. The Scripture says:
“It is a fool who says there is no God.”
1 Consequences of sin:
• Fear & restlessness:
When you live in sin: lying, cheating, stealing, adultery, killing fornication, child-abuser, arrogance and self -exaltation, love for money, sexual immorality, etc., and you think you are smart!
The Scripture warns:
“There is no peace for the wicked. The wicked are like the troubled sea which cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace said the Lord to the wicked.”
Anyone living in sin can never have peace. It can lead to heavy drinking, heavy smoking, drugs to quench the inner turmoil of your life of fear. You are always restless and fearful you will be caught. Many are on drugs because they can’t sleep in the night. They have to drug themselves to sleep. These are the consequences of sin.
• You lose your reputation & all your labor in life:
When you are caught in sin and wickedness, you lose your reputation and you can end up living your life in prison. You can lose all your hard labor in life. Everything will be gone in a twinkle of an eye. The shame and ridicule can lead to drastic consequences if you are not careful. It can lead to self-destruction.
• You lose eternal life:
You can say I don’t care about your eternal life! The point remains: after the end of your life and you have not accepted Jesus as your Savior, and have no eternal life, you have wasted your time on earth. Whether you are the richest man on earth, the greatest corporate leader, intellectual, political, or anything you are that exalts your ego, you will not go down your grave with anything. The Scripture says:
“Naked we came, and naked we must go back.”
“And what is in this life? The lusts of the eyes, the lusts of the flesh and the pride of life. These things shall pass away, but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.”
The lust of this life that prevents us from loving God will be gone someday: sex, money, love for power, arrogance, etc. Then you will lose eternal life and end up in hell. It is irrelevant of you believe in it or not.
• Sin has been the fall of powerful kingdoms in the history of the world.
• Whatever you sow, you will reap. Don’t think you are smart because if you are living in sin, you are heaping up disastrous consequences for yourself that will come to pass someday.
2 Change, Listen, and obey the will of God:
The person or individual who listens to God’s will and word, obeys and does the will of God has peace. Even in the midst of the greatest trials, you experience peace that no material attainment can give.
Madam Guyou, author of: “Her Sole Crime Was That Of Loving God. 1648-1717” Imprisoned unjustly by the Catholic Church at that time in one of the worst prisons in France; her riches and daughter taken away from her: yet listen to this godly woman in her deep suffering in a dungeon:
“While I was prisoner at Vincennes, and Monsieur De La Reine examined me, I passed my time in great peace, content to pass the rest of my life there, if such were the will of God. I sang songs of joy, which the maid who served me learned by heart, as fast as I made them. We together sang thy praise oh my God! The stones of my prison looked in my eyes like rubies; I esteemed them more than all the gaudy brilliances of a vain world. My heart was full of that joy which Thou givest to them who love Thee, in the midst of their greatest crosses.”
Madam Guyon: “Her Sole Crime Was That Of Loving God.”
When you learn to obey God’s commands, you have peace. Only God gives this kind of peace, and it comes from obedience to God’s will. Obedience is the core of the Christian faith. If you claim to be a Christian, and you are not obedient to God’s will, you are wasting your time.
3 God forgives Sin:
Sin deprives humans of joy, peace, ability to enjoy our lives here on earth. They are many who are so fabulously rich, great intellectuals, powerful corporate leaders, political and great spiritual leaders, ordinary people, but have no peace: despite all their riches. Sin deprives you of your health with bad habits and life - style.
But the good news is that Jesus said:
“I came that you might have life and life abundantly.”
Main reason Jesus came on earth was that humans be redeemed from the power of sim: black or white, Jew or Gentile. On that infamous cross, He died and took our sin nature and gave us power to live above sin and have peace.
Jesus forgave our sins, washed it off with His blood, and gave us victory over our sin nature. If you are truthful to yourself, you will realize humans are so wicked and sinful. The Scripture says:
“The heart of man is sinful and desperately wicked, who can know it? I God search the heart and reward everyman according their deeds.”
Have you not realized how your heart can play tricks on you, insinuates things, and pushes you to do what you don’t want to do? This is the human heart. It is evil. That is why God’s words says:
“All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Some people say: I am not a sinner; I don’t steal or lie. But the Scripture says:
“By the deeds of the law shall no man be justified before God;” We are inherently born sinful and wicked. Look into yourself, not someone else and believe this. Have you seen kids kick, bite and exhibit habits you wonder were it came from? Humans are born sinful. This is why Jesus came to save us and give us salvation. Salvation is by grace, and not our merit of anything. What we merit is destruction. But God chose to love and redeem humanity. “For God so loved the world.” That is why He gave his Son to die for humanity.
“By grace are we saved, not of works less any man should boast, it is the gift of God.”
God will forgive your sins, no matter what those sins are if you will accept that He died for your sins. Confess them and tell Him you are sorry: it does not matter what you have done. It is not His will to destroy the sinner. You are a murderer, liar, steal,
cheat, etc., no matter what your sins are: come to Jesus and He will forgive, give you peace and a new life.
Steps to be saved:
1 Believe you are a sinner: Don’t argue you are not.
2 Confess your sin: you can do it yourself or go to a genuine minister of God.
3 Ask the Lord to forgive you and be serious.
4 If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the death, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9&10
5 If you sincerely do this and believe, you will be forgiven, and the Holy Spirit will come into your life to give you power over sin. You will have power to stop sin in your life.
6 You will be peptized: just a sign of identification you have become a child of God: and entered into the family of those saved. God will lead you to a genuine church where you will grow and mature as a child of God.
These are very dangerous and uncertain times. We must listen to the voice of God and obey to maintain peace today in a turbulent and chaotic world.
