What Is Love?

Love is God, and God is love. Love is a heavenly attribute, and it comes from God. Love is the greatest gift from God to mankind. It surpasses knowledge, intellectual acumen, fame and fortune, political power, corporate power, etc. Love is “PEACE.”

The Scripture reminds us that:

• Love is patient
• Love is kind
• It does not envy
• It does not boast
• It is not proud
• It does not dishonor others
• It is not self - seeking
• It is not easily angered
• Keeps no records of wrong
• Does not delight in evil, but rejoiceth in the truth
• Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
• But knowledge, power, money, prophetic power, etc., all will pass away.

Can you imagine having these attributes in life? You will possess “PEACE.”

1 Love Comes from God:

Love is not a human attribute: You can only possess love when you know Jesus as Savior. Humans are born sinful and wicked. Have you ever watched a little child kicking, biting, and fighting? Whether we are white, black, red or green; Muslin, Jews, Gentiles, etc. The Scripture says:

“All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

We hate each other, we cheat, we kill, steal, lie, commit adultery, fornication, murder each other, child abusers, rape, etc. Jesus came purposely to deliver us from our sin nature. As long as humans do these things, you will never have peace. But Jesus died on the cross to exchange our sinful nature, and give us power to overcome our sin nature that renders humans fearful and restless: and deny us peace.

If you believe what Jesus did for humans on the cross; believe He died for your sins; washed away your sins with His blood; you will be delivered from sin: and you will have power from the Holy Spirit to stop your struggle over sin.

The Scripture says:

“If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God raised him from the death, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart, man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

When you confess your sin and believe that Jesus died for your sin, the Holy Spirit comes into your life, who is the Third Person of the Trinity. He gives you power to overcome sin in your life. Then, you will be filled with God’s love, which is not a human attribute. You can then love God with all your heart, and your neighbor as yourself: whether they are black or white.

2 God’s love enables us to love others:

When you have God’s love, the power of the Holy Spirit enables you to love your neighbor, whether they are black or white. You don’t see the color of your neighbor’s skin, but all you want to do is how you can be kind and help them reach their goal in life. You learn to see others as God sees us. This is Because God has changed your sinful heart, and given you "a divine heart that loves and forgives,” not a hateful heart that despises others: especially when they are not like you.

3 Romantic Love:

Love between a man and woman is the a tiny bit of God’s deep love He gives to two people in love. It can be the most powerful thing on earth, but only few men and women taste this kind of love. Poets, artists have tried to capture in writing this romantic love, but have not been able to do that. In a culture of materialism, we have confused love with money, sex, and power. You see those who say they love their husbands, wives, girlfriends, killing them. You wonder, what is love? Love is kind and does no evil. When you genuinely love your spouse, or girlfriend, you cannot hurt them.

4 Valentine’s day:

As we think of Valentine’s day, let us remember it can be a time to renew our love for each other as neighbors: whether we are black or white, and not hate each other. Our country is so divided by hate, racism, shooting each other, etc. Let us come back to loving each other. That is God’s will.

It is also a time of family reunion where we wipe hate in the family, and love each other as God wants us to love one another as he loved us. The Scripture says:

“Should God mark iniquity, who among us shall stand before Him?”

God has not dealt with us according to our sins, neither has He destroyed us about our sins and secret ones, why should we kill and destroy others?

As we think of Valentine’s day, for those in romantic love or affair: remember sex, money, fame, power don’t constitute genuine love. Don’t pretend you love someone because of their money, fame, sexual appeal, power or otherwise. When those things are gone, then your love is gone. But love is deep and enduring because it comes from God. This kind of pretense of love is destroying our society and culture. Let us seek genuine love in romantic love, and reach the powerful goal God created in romantic love, and the joy and peace that associates it. This is a poem on romantic love. Have a wonderful Valentine's day.

Love is a deep longing
Strong and bruising
Bruises of pain and suffering
Waiting a test of love
Deepens or falters
With a test of time
