Cambridge's neighbor to the east, Somerville, has always shared a kinship with The Peoples republic. They have a similar gritty independent spirit - though some Cantabrigians might not admit it, share medical care facilities, have a major university on its shores, appreciate for the arts and entertainment and most importantly simply possess a love for homemade donuts. Somerville is where home to several former Cambridge residents today.

Cambridge was home to a film festival for 15 years which calls Somerville home today, the Boston Science Film Festival, https://www.bostonscifi.com/, for 11 days sci-fi fans can check out great documentaries, and films in the sci-fi genre. I had the pleasure of sitting down with the production manager and festival archivist, HARRY LOHR, JR. Harry shared with me some of the history of the festival, the importance of the film style and what festival attendees can expect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UqYo4kngS0&t=26s

I was also pleased to conduct an interview with one of the major actors in the festival, Sam J. Jones, https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0429207/. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jy-n87wOMCs&t=269s Jones is literally a movie veteran's veteran. The former Marine shared his past experiences in films such as Blake Edward's 1979 movie '10' to present day films such as local comedy 'Ted' with actor Mark Walhberg. He is the subject for the British produced documentary Life After Flash, depicting his life after the 1980 film Flash Gordon. Flash Gordon was first a comic strip in the 1930s, an early radio drama, television show and in 1980 a movie. Jones will also be seen on the Somerville Theater, https://somervilletheatre.com/ , big screen in a film titled Axcellerator. Axcellerator, https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6143798/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_4 , was filmed on location at another neighboring space, Vermont.

The Boston Science Film Festival is happening now, running February 8 through February 18, 2019. Enjoy!
