The Festival of Saint Cosmas and Damian

An evening of music, food, celebration and healing

Every September. Cambridge hosts an Italian festival celebrating the healing saints, Cosmas and Damian. They were twin brother from Syria who were doctors in the third century. They were well known as patrons of healing arts. At the carnival, music, rides and food filled the street. Families danced to the music of Vinyl Groove. Governor Charlie Baker made a surprise appearance. Many lined up for photos and autographs. The main event of the evening was witnessing the procession of Cosmas and Damian. Announced by ringing bells, the two statues were carried out of the church and marched down the streets. The procession was followed by a marching band. People gave offering of money by attaching dollar bills to the saints and saying a prayer in hope of good health. For more information on this Italian tradition check out the following sites.
