CCTV's website is about to adopt a Terms of Use agreement and a Privacy Policy starting on November 1, 2010. Sometimes we are faced with difficult decisions about user contributed content that may be in violation of the law, such as copyrighted music and images, or with content that is disruptive to the environment that we wish to maintain, such as commercial advertising or nonsensical spam. These policies will protect us and you, as well has help CCTV make better decisions about the operation of our site.

Cambridge Community Television has been working together with the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard Law School to develop a comprehensive "Terms of Use" for CCTV's website. After more than a year of work, here they are.

Terms of Use:

Privacy Policy:

Starting November 1, 2010, CCTV will officially adopt and implement these policies. So, what does this mean for you?

Well, nothing really changes in these new policies. We offer the same services on the same site. This policy puts into writing all the same practices we have been following from the beginning. We are just changing a loosey-goosey, decade old, implied policy into an official one. After Nov 1, you must review and agree to these Terms of Use before you can access your account. If you are a current user and find that these terms are totally not OK with you, then we will provide you with options for how to disengage from our site in a way that makes you comfortable.

Feel free to use the comments below for discussion of these policies, we would like to have your feedback.

Thanks for that information on the new policies, Sean, and especially the plain-English summary. Do you want us to sign a new agreement, or does our old one cover this?

You will eventually agree to these policies when you come back to the site after Nov 1. It will happen automagically.
