The Text of My Public Comment ( http://cambridgema.iqm2.com/Citizens/SplitView.aspx?Mode=Video&MeetingID...) is as Follows:

“Peace Be Unto You,”

Hello Everybody, I’m Hasson Rashid, I reside at 820 Massachusetts Avenue. My public comment is about PORL#3, and any other agenda item that relates directly or indirectly to homelessness.

PO/RL Item #3’s Resolution is nearly a declaration of faith in support of state legislative advocacy directly related to homelessness, in the current round of bill and law making activity at the state house. It’s good that the mayor and city council supports this type of legislative activity, but I continue to hold the position that Cambridge is not doing enough for the “People Who Live on the Streets.” It needs to provide more long term forward thinking as it relates to eradicating and ending homelessness. The city needs to provide permanent supportive housing space for the homeless individuals and families, and those at risk of becoming homeless. The city needs to eliminate all barriers for new construction of Multiunit” buildings to house the homeless. At this time the city has more resources than usual to devote to construction of housing for the homeless. This can be done by increasing the availability of both affordable and homeless housing, through a combination of land use policies and subsidies for housing development. The city should plan for a brick and mortar projects for the homeless to gain traction in working to ease the “Homeless Crisis” by adding hundreds of units.

The “Political Will” to do so wasn’t with the city when opportunities arose to add “Multiunits” of supportive homeless housing at the Foundry Building, Sullivan Court House and Garage, and the Volpe Center. Hopefully, the city’s efforts to send an engrossed copy of resolution in I#3 to the members of Cambridge’s legislative delegation, hopefully again is a valid sign that the city is in possession of the needed amounts of “Political Will” to began to initiate local long range planning to build permanent supportive housing for the homeless sector and mosaic from the ground up. Thank you.

“Yours In Peace,”
Mr. Hasson Rashid
