Peace and Sanity Be Unto You,

Hello Everybody, I’m Hasson Rashid, I reside at 820 Massachusetts Avenue, my public comment is in regards to CMA I# 1,2,5, and any other Agenda Item that relates to Appointments, Appropriations, Zoning, and Homelessness.

In future appointments, selection of committee, advisory members, and task forces, more inclusive input of citizen participation in determining exactly who gets to be seated be in fairness should be included.

In municipal appropriations, transfers of public monies and funds, I also feel that a more inclusive input of citizens participation should be involved.

Through past activities of our municipal administration and policy makers, it can be said with supportive facts, that you all have been guilty as sponsors of exclusion and discrimination of the homeless sector and mosaic. In all of the survey, studies, petitions, modification of zoning enabling laws, etc., produced here in Cambridge, nothing is mentioned about creating permanent housing opportunities for the homeless. Yet you municipal policy makers and administrators are on record supporting restrictive zoning practices, by a current list of developers, approved and currently petitioning for enabling zoning, etc., that in reality impedes access to permanent housing opportunities for our homelessness citizens and neighbors.

You city policy makers, planners, etc., has not been accurately predicting the value that developers place on opportunities for the homelessness mosaic and sector. Knowingly or unknowing you city policy makers, planners, etc., are harming the homeless in the local housing market. They are the ones that are still suffering by these exclusionary zoning practices. This is economic discrimination that cloaks racial discrimination and residential discrimination. Through zoning laws and restrictions, you all have become the sponsors of exclusion and discrimination, the instruments in which fair and affordable housing supply is curtailed, and price increased for members of the homeless segments of our municipality.

Therefore, any further modification of zoning enabling laws included by the municipality should open and maintain avenues for creating permanent housing opportunities for the homeless. Thank you.

Yours In Peace and Sanity, Hasson Rashid
