Red-tail Chicks Ready to Fly This Weekend !!! Larry, Lucy, and Lucky in Photo. See Video!

Chicks in photo left to right: Larry, Lucy, and Lucky. I just calculated and if the first chick born was born April 11 as I strongly feel, that means that it could try to fly this weekend! Oh my gosh! It's based upon an average range of 42 - 46 days old. But males usually fly earlier in that range and if the 2nd chick born is male, it could actually fly first even if it was born a day or two later. Keep in mind, we are not positive about the sex so the names could be misleading. Sooooo, get out your cameras and binoculars. Come early and stay late. It could happen in the rain this Sunday. If you see it happen, please let us all know and give the exact date and time and where it flew to. Keep a watch out for Buzz or Ruby who will bring it food as the chicks cannot hunt yet. They each have pretty distinguishable markings at this young stage. See above photo by John Harrison. I could be wrong, but I'm calling from left to right: Larry, Lucy, and Lucky. Larry has a thin brown streak through the eye. Lucy has a thicker brown streak through the eye, and Lucky is all white and much smaller. If you take a photo of any fledgling in flight or a photo of who is left in the nest, please share it with us. Our guess on the birth of Lucky, the youngest one, is as much as a week after the second one, so this whole process can go a while. Good luck!!
