The Port, the name of a proud neighborhood

Hello Cambridge,

Today I want to mention the miserable job the City has done with implementing the unanimously voted on policy order of Vice Mayor Benzan. In February Vice Mayor Benzan introduced a policy order requiring, and I quote

"""
That the City Manager be and hereby is requested to confer with the appropriate departments and to engage the Fletcher-Maynard School to create a community process that would culminate on Area 4 Pride Days for the renaming of Area 4 as "The Port" and to report back to the City Council in a timely manner.
"""

In the attached zip file are copies of flyers and the People history of the Port.

Instead of The Port (‘Area 4’) Pride Day being the culmination of a process resulting in the renaming of ‘Area 4’ to The Port, the City completely reinterpreted the policy order. The result of which was an insulting door know flyer requesting the resident of The Port to vote on weather or not "We should rename Area 4". People were encourage to text 617-858-6292 and vote Yes or Not… if you texted anything else you would receive a text back: "Sorry we didn't understand that answer. Please try again.". I've included pictures of the flyer. The interpretation by the City Manager of the policy order is completely out of place and should not have happened. The City Manager should stay away of interpretation and instead focus on the correct and efficient implementation of policy orders. It is clearly not the way he operates. What is more shocking though is the result of the interpretation of the City Manager. A miserable flyer posted on door knobs of The Port 24 hours prior to the expiration date of the vote. What is shocking was shocking is the question that was asked:

with no end or beginning, no context, no nothing... a waste of time, money and human resources, and insult to the residents of the Port, and Cambridge at large.

This is not the first time this has happened, i.e.: the City Manager taking an policy order and reinterpreting it to fit his needs. It is high time for us to reclaim our Democracy (rule of/by the People), to get rid of the semi dictatorial Corporatocracy, which like a cancer, has taken root in Cambridge, and take back control of our local governance. The Port is not Area 4, it’s The Port.

We the people are the Democracy, and no City manager or Plan E should be in charge of our local politics.

In the attached zip file are copies of flyers and the People history of the Port.
