Conclusions, Questions -- City Council Elections

It's been quite a while... After my last blog back in February or March, can't remember, could go check... oh well.. I decided to leave the conclusion till the elections. At the time, I thougth it would be an interesting idea to do profiles of all the candidates who would allow it... Get a better idea of what the City Council is about, what their about ... try to understand how influence and decision live with one another...
We're are now a few days away... and I have followed up... During this week I went around and spend an hour with 9 candidates, still have a few more to go... the elections are a few days away... can't really wait to start writing... During the interviews, I truly wanted to understand their motivations both philosophical and practical ... I wanted to talk about monies... and obviously understand better the process of our so particular election for City Council...

Well it's been very interesting... I'll start at the beginning ... here is the email I sent to all the candidates... on the 23rd of this month at 10:00 am..

Dear Candidate,

My name is Ilan Levy and I have a blog on CCTV ( http://www.cctvcambridge.org/blogs, and search ilan). I am going to be writing a blog, during the last 6 days of the campaign, covering the candidates.
I would like to have the opportunity to meet for an hour , anytime between today and Wednesday the 28th would be great. The main purpose of the my blog will be to cover the candidates views and understand how their campaign, meeting their constituents, changed, alter or confirmed their position.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration, I am looking forward to hearing from you

Sincerely,

Ilan,

PS: feel free to contact my anytime, my info are here under...

Well to my surprise ... not really the responses started coming in... in order:

Leland Chueng ... got appointment ... did interview...
Tim Toomey ... got appointment ... did interview...
Minka vonBeuzekom ... got appointment ... did interview...
Denise Simmons ... will check schedule and have campaign manager call me... haven't gotten an interview yet...
Silvia Glick ... No... she then changed here mind ... I'm meeting her tomorrow... after we met at a T stop...
Henrietta Davis ... No
Charles Marquardt ... got appointment ... did interview...
Sam Siedel ... took a little while to connect but I interviewed him today...
Neal Leavitt ... got appointment ... did interview...
Tom Stohlam ... got appointment ... did interview...
Craig Kelley ... got appointement ... did interview...
Kenneth Reeves ... got an email... tried to set up something ... but never really heard back... weird...
Larry Ward ... got email... tried to call him... never could speak with him...

Wow made for busy week... What surprised me most is how relevant the order, in which the replies came in, made me react... I felt happy, surprised, disappointed,... I wanted everyone to reply... The candidates with less monies were all saying yes... but sitting councilors were being more difficult... wonder why... oh ya ... much busier... that's so obvious... why didn't I think of that... i'm so, so stupid...

I'm repeating myself... that's ok... we all do...

Now before I go on and start getting serious... I have to tell you ... yes you my reader... you need to vote... you need to tell you neighbor to vote... you need to tell everyone you know in Cambridge... to vote... What is clear, please check around, other have written about this... is that voter turn out in the City of Cambridge has drop radically over the last 9 years... to catastrophic levels... NOW AWARE... i have also decide to launch a get out the vote campaign... Cause voting is so essential... so so sooooooo ESSENTIAL...

Let's get to the meat of it... of the vote... Oh Cambridge your so great, so full of educated resident, full of concerned citizens... full of youth... and full of energy... full of Universities and Colleges... businesses at the edge of technology... why is voter turn out so low... when it should be the highest... are we really too busy to take the time ... to tired or lazy to be responsible... every vote affects all the residents of Cambridge! Why do we leave it to so few?

Any comments welcome... I don't have the answer... what I know is that I want you to vote... I want you to vote for who you feel is right... I hope that through the portraits I will draw over the next few days... and this is gone be fun, I promise... I can help make voting even more fun... it is now my goal... make you participate, talk,... vote...

VOTE VOTE VOTE... VOTE VOTE... VOTE... VOTE VOTE VOTE ... VOOOOOTE... VOOOOTE VOOOTE VOOOOTEEEEE....

That's it for today...

VOTE... VOTE... VOTE... and VOTES...VOTE... VOTE... VOTES.. VOTE VOTE VOTE...VOTES VOTES VOTES...

City of Cambridge, Elections for City Council...

PS: strangely enough... as a resident... i cannot vote... sad... I vote in Belgian elections still... But I love democracy... freedom... the right to choose.. especially when it can be exercised..

PSI: I do have a strange way of writing... make spelling and grammatical mistakes... but I VOTE...

I had a good conversation with City Council Candidate James Williams last night. Watch his candidate spot at CCTV.

VOTE ON!
