About the “Breaking Ground” exhibit
“Breaking Ground,” the Lunder Arts Center’s inaugural show, celebrates the many accomplishments of more than 50 alumni of the university’s bachelor of fine arts program and introduces their work to public audiences in the university’s new arts complex in Cambridge’s Porter Square.
The juried exhibition is on view through March 22 in the Roberts Gallery and the Raizes Gallery of the Lunder Arts Center. The show features diverse works in painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, design, illustration, animation and video.
About the Lunder Arts Center
Named for Lesley Class of 1959 alumna Paula Lunder and her husband, Peter, the Lunder Arts Center is the new home of the Lesley University College of Art and Design, which moved from Kenmore Square. The $46 million, 74,000-square-foot arts center at 1801 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge unifies Lesley’s campuses within the city of Cambridge.
The Lunder Arts Center marries history to contemporary design with a new four-story structure connected by a dramatic, three-story glass-walled commons to the historic former North Prospect Church. The university moved the church building in December 2013 to the adjacent lot, ¬then fully restored and renovated it to accommodate an arts library and studios. The Lunder Arts Center, designed by Bruner/Cott & Associates, Inc. of Cambridge, and constructed by John Moriarty & Associates, Inc. of Winchester, features exhibition spaces that invite the public in while enlivening the streetscape of Porter Square. The arts center supports Lesley University’s community of learners who place value in the arts across all disciplines at the core of the university’s educational mission.
