Most of us know the story of Charlie and the MTA. The song, popularized in 1959 by the Kingston Trio, was actually a 1949 campaign song for Boston mayoral candidate Walter O'Brien who promised to lower MTA fares, which included a pay-as-you-exit system. In the song, Charlie gets on at Kendall Square and as you'll see, he finally was able to get off at Harvard Station. Check this out...he looks happy doesn't he?
