Making the News: How to Tell a Video News Story
Sunday, May 15: 4:00-8:00 p.m.
Instructors: Edie Rubinowitz, Ken Kreshtool
Here‚s your chance to make the news ˜ literally! Students are first introduced to the different types of news stories, the fundamental elements that draw listeners into stories, and shooting techniques developed by and for video journalists. Then the course walks students through the entire process of conceptualizing, researching, reporting, and producing a segment for CCTV‚s new newsmagazine show "You Are Here."
Pre-requisites: Experience with camcorders & editing recommended in order to complete extensive homework; those without experience will be teamed up with classmates. Please bring a camcorder to class if you have one.

Lights, Mics, Action!
4 Tuesdays, May 17, 24, 31, & June 7: 6:00-9:00 pm
Instructor: Mark Kelsey, CCTV Instructor of the Year
Too many shows are compromised by sound and lighting that are poor or even just OK. Come learn the basics of Audio 101 and Lighting 101, while putting this knowledge to work on a group project.
Prerequisite: You must have completed your Certification tape before enrolling.

Talking Heads: Interviewing Styles & Techniques
2 Mondays, May 23 & June 6: 6:00-9:00 pm
Instructor: Tim Wright
In the first session, students will learn how to choose a location, evaluate its acoustics, select and locate mics, win your subject's trust, ask effective questions, compose the shot, and shoot for maximum editing flexibility. Students will be given interview assignments to complete as homework; these will be critiqued in the second session.
Prerequisites: Completion of at least previous video, plus access to camcorder for completing homework assignment.

Making Headlines: How to Use the Media
3 Thursdays, May 26, June 2 & 9: 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Instructor: Eric Weltman
Have an issue that you care about? A campaign, candidate, or cause you want to promote? This hands-on course will help you reach the masses through the mainstream media. You‚ll learn the nuts and bolts of media relations, from creating powerful messages to drafting press releases, from writing letters-to-the-editor to organizing exciting events.
No pre-requisites. Note, while you must register at CCTV, this course will meet at Eviction Free Zone, 55 Norfolk Street.
