Join us for a grand free public celebration of Bee Culture hosted by Toni Bee, the Poet Populist of Cambridge,
& Mary Canning, Massachusetts Coordinator of National Honey Bee Day and Proprietor of Cambridge’s Follow The Honey
Buzz on over to our Black n’ Yellow mini-block party and enjoy the cultural diversity of bees through music, poetry, art, and a taste of honey!
Meet Cambridge’s own Follow the Honey shop “Hive Minders” at the Follow the Honey tasting tent and experience a complimentary magic carpet ride of the palette! Taste and learn more about honeys cultivated from the nectar flow of India, Africa, and South America. Eat Local Honey beekeeper, Mike Graney, will also be on hand to answer questions. Guest “VIB” Cambridge beekeeper-educator-chef, Esther Splaine, will share tips on creating homespun herbal healing salves using beeswax & honey and on becoming an urban beekeeper.
Toni Bee, Cambridge Poet Populist, and a swarm of local youth and adult poets will cross-pollinate words and music with beats from DJ Fens and guests from the MMMMaven Project.
Families and mini-bees are welcome to create apis melliferous sidewalk art (chalk provided) and complimentary face painting. Costumed cyclists and stilt walkers follow the honey wherever it flows and we expect to see them buzzing around town.
The Honeybee Hooray is part of Central SW!NGS, a series of outdoor cultural events held every Thursday Night in Central Square, sponsored by The Central Square Business Association, the Cambridge Arts Council, and The Mass Cultural Council.
