The Power of Faith in the Christian Life
The Power of Faith in the Christian Life
• Faith in relation to worshiping God.
• Faith in relation to providing our daily needs.
• Faith in relation to our final destiny on earth.
What is faith?
The Scriptures describes faith as “Substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1
You are waiting for something you have confidence, evidence and assurance it will happen, although you have not received it yet.
The dictionary says the word faith means the following:
What is the Christian faith based on?
The Christian faith is based on God’s word. “So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17
What makes the Christian believer know that what he or she hopes for and believes must come to pass? Why this strong confidence and assurance that what the word of God says must come to pass? For example if you are looking for a job or has other problems, and you read the Scripture that says: “My God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus,” or “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength,” Phil. 4: 13&19. What makes the Christian believer have such certainty that this promise will be fulfilled in their lives?
This is because God spoke the word. The word of God is the representation of Him, and it is through the word that God reveals Himself to the Christian believer. The Scripture says:
“In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the word was God," and "The word became flesh and dwelt among us.” John 1:1&14. The word of God is Jesus made flesh and everything about the word is the manifestation of God revealing Himself to humans.
Hebrews 1:3 says: “The son is the radiance of God’s glory, and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His word.”
The believer has this strong confidence in the word because the word of God stands for ever: 1 Peter 1:25; Isaiah 40:8 Jesus says in Mathew 24:35: “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my word will never pass away.” So you ask again why should I trust God’s word or the Bible or the Scripture? It is because His word is reliable and trustworthy when we believe it. God’s word has healed the blind, the lame, the leprous, and solved desperate human needs in the past and still does now if you believe, no matter what your needs are.
“God is still the same yesterday, today and forever and does not change.” If you are sick and the word says to you “You can do all things through Him who gives you strength," then, believe it and your strength will come back; if it says “I will provide all your needs," then believe it and it will work for you. The Scripture says “All things shall be possible to those who believe.” Mark 11:23*24; Mt. 21:22 You are blind and you believe God can open your eyes, or you don’t have a job or any thing, it will work for you if you will dare believe. These things are real; the Scripture is real. In times of Jesus, the blind were healed. They are still being healed today in modern times only to those who believe. It does not matter what your needs are. Don’t despair. I know times are rough and tough, but God still gives miracles and breakthroughs. 'He has not changed, so the sons of men are consumed.'
• Faith in relation to worship
If you don’t put trust, reliance or confidence in God’s word, you can’t be saved from your sin; if you don’t believe God’s word, you will die in your sin and what Jesus did for you on the cross in vain. Sin destroys humans, but if you believe God’s word, no matter what you have done, the blood of Jesus wipes your sins like you have never sinned before. You will begin to enjoy the adoption into God’s family and all the riches of His grace.
• Faith in relation to providing our daily needs
It is your reliance, confidence, assurance in God’s word that allows you to exercise your faith when God says: “I will provide your needs according to my riches in glory.” Believe it daily in your life- whatever your needs may be.
2 financial problems
4 whatever problem it may be
Jesus says: “All things are possible to those who believe.” I have needs and I am asking the Lord to provide my needs in my life now. Some people think my needs can never be met humanly, but I know God says all things are possible to those who believe, especially if I am asking in His will, and it is a need according to His word. I am not asking for my selfish desires. All you need to do is to stand on God’s word that says to you: “I will provide your needs- “all things are possible to those who believe. It does not matter what anybody says to you or what they think or the problem is humanly impossible. What matters is God says: “I will provide it and if you will believe it. Read Hebrews 11. What God says is His word is what matters, and every other thing is irrelevant. The devil will come to try your faith with fear, but “God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love and of a sound mind.” 2 Tim. 1:7 That is how your needs are met daily through the power of faith. You believe what God says to you through faith, standing and relying on His word alone.
• Faith in relation to our final destiny on earth
So one day, you see yourself dying as a child of God. It is also faith that ushers you into God’s presence. The word of God says God is preparing us a place in heaven. John 14:1-4 You must also believe this in faith- that is have confidence that this is true; rely on it that this is true; have assurance, certainty that this is true. As you are dying, you have the full assurance and confidence you are going to this place the lord has prepared for you the believer. If you can’t believe, then you can’t live the Christian life.
The Christian life is the greatest life on earth.- that is those who are genuinely true believers. It does not matter what happens to you in life, whatever kind of problem you have, you have peace. “My peace I give to you, not as the world giveth” There is nothing greater than peace. No material opulence or intellectual acumen or human ingenuity can guarantee peace on earth. Sometimes, people follow sinful pathway and do all kinds of wicked things to get to the top, only to lose their peace and become miserable and restless. Only Jesus gives peace-even in the greatest trials of life, your heart is at peace with God if you are a child of God. Eventually, when you die and leave this hard and sinful world, you go to be with Jesus forever.
If you don’t have faith, you can’t please God: “Without faith, we can’t please God.” Hebrews 11:6 As a child of God, you are linked to Him through His word which is faith- faith comes by hearing the word of God, and the word is God made flesh in Jesus Christ. The Scripture says anything not done in faith is sin. It is through what Jesus did for us on the cross that we appropriate through faith to enjoy the riches of God’s grace- like righteous living that gives us peace. If you don’t take it by faith, then you can’t have it, and you can't live it. ‘By faith are we saved, not of works, less any man should boast.’ ‘It is not by our works of righteousness that we are saved, but by God’s mercy He saved us.’ That is why faith is so powerful in worshiping God and in the Christian life. The power of faith initiates the sinner into worship with God; through the power of faith, your daily needs are met as a child of God and finally, through the power of faith, someday, you are ushered into God's presence forever when it is over in this life.
