How to move Events or Projects in FCP X

Having trouble moving your FCPX project from your computer to an external hard drive?

A question that I get frequently is how to move Events and Projects used by Final Cut Pro X. Below is a step by step guide on how to move your FCPX files quickly and safely.

Before you move anything, make sure that you quit Final Cut Pro! Otherwise, everything gets confused. Once FCP is quit, locate your Final Cut Events or Final Cut Projects folder in your hard drive using the Finder.
Events are stored in your Final Cut Events folder and projects are stored in your Final Cut Projects folder. Open the Final Cut Events folder, and you will see an individual folder for each event.
To move an Event, simply drag the ENTIRE event folder from its current Final Cut Events folder into the Final Cut Events folder on a different drive. It is important that you drag the entire folder and not just some of its contents. If you do not have a Final Cut Event folder on the drive where you are moving the project to, you can create it. Just make sure that you copy and paste the EXACT title Final Cut Events from one drive to another. Also, keep in mind that you can only have one Final Cut Events or Final Cut Projects folder per hard disk, so before creating a new folder, make sure that one does not already exist on your drive.
Follow the same steps for your Final Cut Projects:
1. Locate your project folder.
2. Copy and paste it into the Final Cut Projects folder on the drive you are moving your files to. Keep in mind that you need to copy the ENTIRE project folder and not just some of its content.
