Envision Cambridge Showcase

Gathering to celebrate the completion of the three-year Envision Cambridge citywide planning process.

On January 24, Cambridge residents braved wailing wind and driving rain to gather at the Cambridge Public Library to celebrate the completion of the Envision Cambridge planning process.

“Over the past three years, more than 5,000 Cambridge residents participated with the Cambridge Community Development Department and other department in the creation of Envision Cambridge: A Plan for 2030 to create a more sustainable, equitable and inclusive community” said City Manager, Louis DePasquale, when welcoming attendees.

Cambridge community participants crafted a vision statement and six core values that shape the plan goals and recommendations.

Vision Statement
“Cambridge is a forward-thinking, welcoming, and diverse city. We enjoy a high-quality of life and thrive in a sustainable, inclusive, and connected community.”

Core Values

  • Livability
  • Diversity and Equity
  • Economic Opportunity
  • Sustainability and Resilience
  • Community Health and Wellbeing
  • Learning

Key issues addressed in the plan include: Growing Economy and Shifting Core Industries, Growing Population, Rising Inequality, Declining Housing Affordability, Changing Climate. Changing Nature of Work, Evolving Mobility, and Changing Urban Form.

The plan recommends 37 goals, 42 strategies, and 175 new or modified actions to achieve the vision. For example, under Economic Opportunity, the first goal is Shared Community Prosperity: Ensure access to job opportunities and living wages, as well as access to robust education, training, and support services.
