Challenges, Experiences, Freedom: LGBTQ+ Immigrants & Asylum Seekers took place on Thursday, November 9th, 2017. The City of Cambridge LGBTQ+ Commission and the Commission on Immigrant Rights & Citizenship put on an informational and community-building evening at the Cambridge Public Library, called “Challenges, Experiences, Freedom: LGBTQ+ Immigrants & Asylum Seekers”. Lawyers Stefanie Fisher & Lisa Weinberg spoke about the legal issues faced by LGBTQ+ Immigrants & Asylum Seekers, and three asylum seekers, Sean Martin of Jamaica, Gaelle Tjat of Cameroon, and John “LongJones” Wambere of Uganda, spoke about their own personal experiences. The evening was moderated by Bill Barnert of the LGBTQ+ Commission, and in addition to the two Cambridge Commissions was also co-sponsored by Community Legal Services & Counseling Center (CLSACC), Araujo & Fisher LLC, Refugee Immigration Ministry (RIM), SpeakOUT, and the Cambridge Public Library.

Trump. Featuring: Barbara Anthony (former Massachusetts Undersecretary of Consumer Affairs) as moderator; and Chris Faraone (co-founder of Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism), Donna Halper (media critic and historian at Lesley University), Kristina Kehrer (citizen journalist with NeighborMedia.org), and the Rev. Irene Monroe (Huffington Post blogger) as guests.
