On Channel 9 this weekend, a marathon of cartoons, comics and animation.

Friday 6-9pm, Saturday noon-midnight, and Sunday 12-4:30pm, programs will include:

Vernon E. Grant Day: A recent celebration to honor Cambridge native Vernon E. Grant for his contributions to the world of cartooning. Vernon was a U.S. Army Captain and lifelong cartoonist. He created two Point-Man Palmer novels, STAND-BY ONE! and the science fiction series, The Love Rangers. Friday Sept. 2 at 6pm, Saturday Sept. 3 at 12pm, and Sunday Sept. 4 at 12:30pm.

Boston Comics Roundtable: Looking for a community of comic creators to work and geek out with? Boston Comics Roundtable holds weekly meetings at the Cambridge Public library and are open to the public - see what they're all about. Saturday Sept. 3 at 12:53pm.

The Drawing Board: A game show devoted to comics and graphic novels and their creators in Cambridge, Boston, and New England. Saturday Sept 3 at 1:40pm and Sunday Sept. 4 at 1:30pm.

The Metaphysics of Popeye: A program dissecting and analyzing the symbology of the classic cartoon character Popeye the Sailor Man. Saturday Sept. 3 at 10:15pm and Sunday Sept. 4 at 12pm.

Subcultures Local Comics Anthology: A lecture on the independent anthology, published by Cambridge's Ninth Art Press, featuring 36 stories by 36 artists about 36 different subcultures. Saturday Sept. 3 at 10:45pm and Sunday Sept. 4 at 3:15pm.

Meanwhile, for conversations focused on Cambridge and the issues facing our community:

Watch CCTV's Local Issues and Events block, Mondays through Thursdays 5-7pm and Saturdays 5-7pm on Channel 8. Programming this week will include the first episode of a new series, Beyond Boston:

Hosted by DigBoston editor and Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism (BINJ) co-founder Chris Faraone, BEYOND BOSTON is a monthly regional news magazine spotlighting reporting from Boston, MA area community access centers - including Brookline Interactive Group (BIG) in Brookline, MA, Cambridge Community Television (CCTV) in Cambridge, MA, Malden Access TV (MATV) in Malden, MA, and Somerville Community Access Television (SCAT) in Somerville, MA - in partnership with BINJ. The newest in the series will play every week on Tuesday and Saturday at 6:30pm.

Also new this week, Understanding College Options: Four Cambridge-raised college graduates discuss their college choices and experiences. Each has chosen a different college option: community college, a four-year public college, or a four-year private college. Topics include why they selected their college, was their college a good “fit, ” and the pros and cons of their college experiences. Financial aid and planning for the costs of college are also discussed. Both students and parents can benefit from this important dialogue. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 5pm.
