Meet the Team

Hi. The first thing you need to know about us (the people who work at CCTV) is that we love each other. A lot. We live to see each other thrive, to make each other laugh, and to make stuff together.

We’re creative, smart, intergenerational, and from all different backgrounds. We’re also incredibly humble. ;)

To put together the bios you see below, every team member filled out a (very thorough, little bit off-the-wall) questionnaire about every other team member.

Here is what we had to say about each other:

Her leadership has helped launch student careers at the NFL, as Entrepreneurs, at the Cannes Film Festival, and beyond—including one of her very own students becoming an educator at PSTV.
Shelley is the co-founder, along with one of her students and mentees, of SIMBY, a nonprofit that provides culturally relevant media education for Black youth.
Shelley has worked across the U.S. and internationally, bridging digital media literacy education, technology, and entertainment to build media programs and partnerships that serve communities. For the past 17 years, she has been CEO of Toolbox Entertainment & Strategic Consulting, leading training, coaching, and development for creatives and changemakers.
At her core, Shelley is driven by a deep belief in equity, representation, and the power of community storytelling. She's excited to bring that same spirit to CCTV's next chapter, which is rooted in community, innovation, inclusion, and connection.

“I am honored and thrilled to introduce myself as the incoming Executive Director of Cambridge Community Television. I am deeply humbled to be joining an organization with such a rich history of creativity, community empowerment, and media equity. CCTV has been a cornerstone pillar in this field for decades, and what's always stood out to me is the heart behind it: the people, the passion, and the purpose. As a leader who has served this industry for nearly 27 years, I am excited to explore this next chapter and learn from all of you: our dedicated members, talented and visionary staff and board members, partners, and vibrant community.

Ellen is our resident badass feminist; she plans, schedules, and manages all of our amazing educational content. She is the bridge between our instructors & facilitators and the students who take our classes & workshops—and she is especially gifted at facilitating an intergenerational exchange between our younger students and our elders.

We are all a little bit dazzled by how wonderful she is with students, her killer ideas for new classes to offer, her groundedness, and her empathy. She is fantastic at contributing to a safe space where we all feel safe to speak our minds.

The reason CCTV is known as the *best* place to learn media skills is because of the programs Ellen has created.

We also think she’d want us to mention that she has several amazing houseplants, and a little daughter named Ruth.

“I love working at CCTV because it is a vibrant and quirky community of people that are passionate about free speech, civic engagement and creative expression! Doesn’t get much better than that.”

Josh monitors the cable channels and streams, and keeps CCTV's channels running smoothly. His passion for technology keeps us up to date with what we need while also finding new, accessible ways for our members to create.

Whether he's crawling up in our ceilings running cables, sitting on the floor getting sticky stuff off the floor, or teaching cool video art classes, Josh takes immense pride in the work he does and we love that about him. We love hanging out in Josh's office that has slowly become a welcoming museum with some fun music and immaculate vibes.

We loved Josh when he interned at CCTV in 2019, and we love even more that he came back with his kind, easy-going personality, cheesy jokes, and technological know-how.

"CCTV is a place for everyone! When I first started interning at the station, I was a recent college graduate with an extremely barebones knowledge of the city of Cambridge. The CCTV staff and community still welcomed me with open arms, gave me opportunities to learn a lot, and empowered me to take ownership of my work in a supportive creative environment. What more could you ask for from a community media center?"

Tristan is our resident retro media aficionado; he curates, schedules, and keeps our channels and gallery feeling fresh, vibrant, and full of life. As a filmmaker and educator with a deep love for community media and archival preservation, he brings both a meticulous eye and a creative spark to everything from working with members on their shows to managing the CCTV archives and hunting down hidden video treasures. His appreciation for nostalgia, his skill in curation, and his ability to make people feel included all shine through the moment you meet him.

He’s the person most members sit down with to get their work onto the channels, the patient guide for our live producers in the Red and Green Studios, and the steady hand behind the flow of content across all of our platforms. We’re all a little bit dazzled by his organizational skills, the care he takes with members, his grounded kindness, and, of course, his vast and slightly uncanny knowledge of VHS tapes, old tech, and anything 80s or 90s. He brings a warm, earnest energy into the workspace—and his positivity, slide decks, and inclusivity remind us daily how lucky we are to have him.

The reason our channels feel so thoughtfully curated and full of gems from across eras is because of the work Tristan pours into them.

I love working at CCTV for many reasons. For one, I love that I am able to get people’s work seen by larger audiences. Being an artist requires a certain level of vulnerability, and I love how happy people are when I am able to help them get their message out. I work with a diverse group of live producers that are all making unique content from one another and it is always interesting to listen to their shows. It helps me feel more connected to our community of local artists and it inspires me to produce my own content. I also love that I get to curate content on CCTV’s channels. My work on CCTV Rewind gave me a great base knowledge of how to effectively find old gems hidden on our servers. I am constantly finding great videos accidentally and I like that I am able to bring them to the public’s attention once again."

Community Multimedia Producer

  • BA in Media Production, Emerson College
muppet-show-muppets

What is your role at CCTV?

I am the Community Multimedia Producer!

What were you doing before you landed here?

Before volunteering at CCTV in 2023, I was working in reality television in Los Angeles. Through that experience, I realized that there’s no place in the world like Cambridge.

Where are you from?

I grew up in Mystic, Connecticut, and I was born in Columbus, Ohio.

Tell us about your family: humans, pets, plants, etc.

I have the pleasure of living with my great aunt, a life-long Cantabridgian and one of my greatest heroes. Her love of this city and passion for the arts have always inspired me. I also live with my partner, who I met while I was shooting a video (for CCTV!) in East Cambridge. He was the theater tech, and we got to talking while we taped an XLR cable to the floor of the auditorium together. We’ve been a two-person production crew ever since.

What do your friends love best about you?

My curiosity, adventurousness, and stalwart nature. I think seeing the world is one of the best ways to understand others while also gaining a deeper understanding of one’s self. My friends like me most when I bring them a homemade meal or dessert!

What are you most excited about in your new role with CCTV?

It’s a brand-new position that will allow me to engage with folks from all over the City of Cambridge in a variety of meaningful ways. Media is involved with nearly everything these days, and making sure our community stays ahead of the curve will be a great pleasure of mine.

What’s your 7th grade alter ego?

A total nerd – I was queen of the band kids and a competitive art student.

Who or what are you a total nerd for?

Anything and everything having to do with food. My favorite thing to make? Traditional Japanese home cooking.

What weird thing do you know everything about?

The Witcher. Not a big fan of the TV show though.

Meet our newest team member, Karin! As soon as we know more about them, we’ll be back to spill the tea. For now, here’s what they have to say for themselves:
