Digital Navigator Program
Bridging the Digital Divide in Cambridge
Because everyone deserves access to the tools and skills to succeed.

The Challenge
Millions of people still lack access to the technology they need in today’s world. This gap—known as the digital divide—means that many of our neighbors are left without laptops, internet, or digital skills. Without these tools, people struggle to connect to education, jobs, healthcare, and essential services.
The Digital Divide at a Glance
- Worldwide: About 2.6 billion people—nearly one-third of the world—remain offline
- United States: Lower-income households are twice as likely to lack home broadband or a computer
- Cambridge:
- Nearly half of public housing residents report not having home internet.
- About 40% of low-income residents lack the digital skills needed for everyday tasks like banking, applying for jobs, or accessing healthcare.
- Nearly half of public housing residents report not having home internet.
Our Solution: The Digital Navigator Program
Through local and regional partnerships, our Digital Navigators help close this gap by:

Where We Work: Navigators are based at trusted community locations—libraries, housing facilities, nonprofits, and city departments—meeting people right where they are.
Building Skills
Training residents in digital literacy and career-ready skills, from sending an email to applying for jobs online
Providing Access
Distributing laptops and assisting individuals in connecting to affordable internet
Creating Opportunities
Connecting families and individuals with resources to fully participate in education, jobs, and essential services
Why It Matters
Behind every donated laptop or training session is a person working toward a better future:
Kate, recovering from cancer and addiction, uses her laptop to continue online studies to become a nutritionist
Marie, re-entering the workforce after caring for her family, gained computer skills, applied for jobs, and resumed her education with a donated laptop
Joe, experiencing homelessness, rebuilt his life and pursued education once equipped with the right tools
These are just a few of the lives being transformed through digital equity.
