Just my two cents

-Add a Blog category to the home page top bar. Blogs should be featured more prominently.

-Clearer and easier to understand registration guidelines. Registration could be multilingual, but that's probably asking too much ;-)

-Add RSS Feed buttons for Blog entries.

-Blog posting could be simplified. WYSIWYG editor.

-Please, do not get rid of the live video stream.

Some news about my Intership

Hi!

I have not written in my blog for long time ago, and i have some news to tell you.

Since now, i am going to help Renato with the promos. We have already think how and what are we want to shoot and the first two promos will shoot next Friday. I like working on this because is a project from the beginning and it includes some production work, and that it's what really like doing. So i am happy doing that.

I am taking the Music Video class. We have already have the first shooting and it was really excited. I think that it is a very great class, however, it is quite difficult to make a music video...i have never done any before and i think that it is quite hard, but it is good for me, it is a way for leaning more.

I have also done other things but they were not as excited that these ones.

Well i have already finished my second Radio Show, actually it is finished and my English teacher is trying to look at it and trying to my English make sense..so will see.

Margaret's HTML Tricks

For those who wish to incorporate multiple photos into a blog entry, Margaret Desjardins put together a special HTML formatting chart for NeighborMedia bloggers awhile back. You can also use Margaret's cheat sheet for the basics, like:

  • making bold or italic type
  • linking to another URL
  • bulleted lists, such as this one
  • resizing text

  • and, of course, the colored text Margaret is famous for.

Bookmark it and use it to get started.

If you want to further explore the world of HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), check CCTV's class schedule for the Intro to HTML and Dreamweaver course.

More Than a Media Fair

yvcgirls.jpg

It's hard to believe that it's been almost a full school year since we launched "Youth View Cambridge." Where did the time go? As the CEA Media Fair proved on Tuesday night, the weeks and months since last October have been well spent.

Cambridge Educational Access opened its doors at the Media Arts Studio in 2005 with little to no programming, and it has grown into a dynamic channel that features several hours per day of student-produced work.

Yet as the media fair came to a close earlier this week, it was not the programming that really stuck out in our minds: it was the bond that had been formed between students through the process of making that media. As the students reiterated during the next day's YVC shoot (the last one of the season), we at CEA -- staff, student reporters and work-study crew -- have become "a family."

Councilor Kelley get$ his 'Grill on'

On Wednesday May 7th I buzzed into Cambridge City Hall’s Sullivan Chamber to witness some of the 2009 Budget Hearings. Every Spring, the heads of City Departments - from Cable T.V to the Women’s Commission – make their plea to at least get level funded for the upcoming year. And what is the bargain – getting scrutinized by City Councilors.

By 10:30 am, Councilors Decker, Seidel, Davis and Brian Murphy were in attendance, politicking to & fro. But it was Councilor Craig Kelley who eloquently fired up “the Grill” peppering questions & comments towards Lisa Peterson, Commissioner of Public Works a.k.a. DPW. It was then that I was reminded why I voted for Kelley in ’05 & last November – He is a head-chef when it comes to dicing up the meat of matters dear to himself and his neighbors. Plus as a seasonal bike rider, Kelley’s eye is on street level yearlong and he is an expert at boiling down the ‘pessimistic potatoes’ of pedestrians, drivers & fellow bikers. read more...

Should the Charles be a private cooling pond for power plant? Guest commentary in the Cambridge Chronicle

Black-Crowned night heron on Broad Canal 5/7/2008

Guest commentary: Should the Charles be a private cooling pond for power plant?
By Mark Jaquith

Cambridge -

Cambridge - There are some nice changes on the horizon for the Broad Canal. That is the name of the inlet, which branches off the Charles River just downstream of the salt and pepper (Longfellow) bridge. For decades, it has been a rarely visited remnant of East Cambridge’s industrial past. It only extends about 600 or so feet from the river now, but in the 1800s it went all the way to where the train tracks now lie. For a time it connected with the North Canal, which ran to the Millers River, making East Cambridge an island. In its day, it was the delivery route for industries located on its banks. It has been filled to its present terminus east of Third Street. read more...

Cambridge Science Festival: Nobelist Reflects on New Era in Physics

Cambridge Science Festival logo

By Karen Klinger

As a teenager, Jerome Friedman was a talented painter who turned down a scholarship to an art school against the advice of his teacher to study physics at the University of Chicago.

It proved to be the right choice.

Friedman, an emeritus professor at MIT, shared the 1990 Nobel Prize in physics for research establishing the first solid evidence for the existence of quarks, building blocks for protons and neutrons--two main components of atoms.

In a talk at the MIT Museum during the Cambridge Science Festival, he reflected on his long career and his belief that with developments such as the recent completion of the world's most powerful particle accelerator, "I think we're coming into a new era of cosmology and particle physics and it's a very, very exciting time." read more...

Instead of contributing to a landfill (bad), bring your stuff to the FreeMeet (good) and save someone the trouble of buying what you can provide for free! read more...

Shady Hill Square Battle Unresolved

shadyhill.jpg

By Karen Klinger

It was last fall when the battle was joined between developers and abutters over the future of bucolic Shady Hill Square in Cambridge's Agassiz neighborhood and it seems unlikely that anything will be settled before this summer, at the earliest.

In the meantime, the abutters can look out on an expanse of green free of any signs that a 5,000-square-foot building might go up in the middle of the park-like setting around which their homes are clustered.

In April, the Cambridge Board of Zoning Appeal decided to continue a hearing on aspects of a building permit held by Stonehouse Holdings to put up what neighbors deride as a "McMansion" on the horseshoe-shaped square that has served as a common yard for a dozen semi-detached stucco houses since they were built in 1915.

For now, Stonehouse is prohibited from doing anything on the site by a "stop work" order issued last October by city building commissioner Ranjit Singanayagam after the abutters raised questions about the ownership of the property and the developers' legal access to it. He told Stonehouse's attorneys in February that he was not lifting the order until matters had been resolved. read more...
