Commemorative Program for World AIDS Day (Dec.1)
November 30, 2008 - 5:31pm — ElisaCCTV will present a specially produced commemorative video piece by local artist London Bridgez in honor of World AIDS Day (Dec.1). London's spoken word piece " Can’t Stop (Loving You)" pushes our expectations of the genre, building creative bridges between blues and soul. Her work mimics afro Caribbean oral traditions of story telling about love, life, and loss.
CCTV will be commemorating World AIDS Day by darkening our local cable Channel 10 and displaying a continuous scroll of names of Cambridge community members lost to HIV/AIDS along with this programming.
World AIDS Day will be recognized around the globe on December 1st with events that highlight progress, raise awareness, and remind us of how much work still needs to be done.

Community Garden Opens in East Cambridge
October 27, 2008 - 9:31pm — Mark JaquithI've done a few posts on this new piece of open space, but I thought I should cover the opening. Well I didn't really do it myself. I spent all day photographing Italian fashion accessories for a catalog. My shots were only the back up, but I made grocery money for the week. I gave the camera to my eleven year old and asked her to do her best. Its a little shaky, but not too bad for a first time out.
Assistant City Manager Rich Rossi Was the master of ceremonies. Tim Toomey and Joe Grassi took turns at the mic as well. Check out the closing credit scene for some unexpected frivolity between city employees.
The event was attended by a fair number of people from the neighborhood with lots of kids underfoot.
Some of us have already christened the compost bins and hope that all of the garden plots will be used next year. Stay tuned.

Community Garden Dedication in East Cambridge
October 21, 2008 - 9:00am — Mark JaquithThis Saturday, October 25, 2008, at 1:00 PM the new community garden at Costa Lopez Taylor Park on Charles Street in East Cambridge will be dedicated by the City of Cambridge. This space, known by locals as the Painted Park, was a fenced off vacant lot until this June when the city began construction of the new garden. They finished up last week.
The garden has about 30 four by eight foot raised plots (at least one of which is built specifically for wheelchair accessibility), compost bins, water, checker tables, benches, sculpture, birdhouses, and a big tree. The plots will be administered by the Cambridge Conservation Commission. If you would like more information about reserving a plot here contact the commission. Here is a link. Cambridge scores well in The Energy Smackdown's Locavore Banquet
September 15, 2008 - 12:11am — Mark JaquithAnd we ate well too.
Team Cambridge competed in the Locavore Banquet on Sunday September 14th. What is a locavore? One who eats food produced locally. The idea was to see which of the three Energy Smackdown teams (Arlington, Cambridge, and Medford) could put together the best meal for twenty people that resulted in the lowest carbon footprint possible.
Our Mid Eastern themed menu consisted of:
Herb roasted marinated chicken breast.
Felafel with beet raita.
Zucchini(sauteed) stacks layered with roasted red peppers and onion with a roasted red pepper puree.
Baba ganoosh with toasted pita.
Heirloom tomato and Armenian cucumber salad with basil.
Roasted acorn squash soup seasoned with curry and garnished with fried sage and fried garlic slivers using a half squash as the bowl. read more...
