Become a Media Producer

Our primary service teaching you how to make your own shows and then put the equipment in your hands so you can do it yourself. It's a real 'do it yourself' environment, which means that you are the camera operator, the sound recordist, the editor, the director, and the talent. We give you free access to the equipment and in return you give us the right to play your program on our three cable channels. The quick and dirty guide to producing programs that will be cablecast on CCTV is as follows:

  • Come to an Orientation.
  • Become a Member.
  • Take classes to learn how to use equipment.
  • Sign a Production Contract.
  • Schedule the use of cameras, edit suites, etc.
  • Submit your finished tape to be cablecast.

Hire or Rent from CCTV

Productions for Hire

We've found that some individuals and organizations would rather pay to use our equipment, or to have a video produced for them, rather than take the time to learn the skills to make videos themselves for free. CCTV offers several options for those interested in having videos produced for them. Renting from CCTV means that you have no obligation to cablecast programs on our channels.

Event Coverage

So you want someone to videotape your community event and put it on TV? As we already explained, CCTV is a 'do it yourself' kind of place and we provide you with training and free equipment for that purpose. Under very specific circumstances, we can make trained crew members available to work with community organizations to provide production support for special events. The following rules apply to organizations requesting these services: read more...

  • The organization holding the event must be or become a member of CCTV before the event takes place.
  • Members must submit an Event of the Week request form, with a $35 fee, at least two weeks in advance of the event.
  • CCTV expects that the requesting organization will make every effort possible to publicize the rebroadcast of the finished program. If there is no publicity done, then there was no point in spending the hours to get the program on the air!

Facilities and Equipment

CCTV has a large inventory of production equipment, editing systems, and studio space that is available to the community. In order to use this stuff, individuals must become members of CCTV and agree to the conditions of our contracting policies. For the most part, members of CCTV are allowed to use most of our equipment and facilities free of charge.

BeLive!

The BeLive studio is a literal interpretation of Public Access as "electronic soapbox," an open forum for the expression of ideas and personal views, politics, culture, news, etc. This low-tech, single-camera studio enables any Cambridge resident or organization to have their own 27-minute live program on Channel 9, without needing to go through any elaborate equipment training. read more...

Production and Contracting Policies

Contract Policies

Members are allowed to use equipment and facilities free of charge for a limited period of time, as long as certain expectations are met. If any of these expectations are not met or if the program is never completed, CCTV will bill you for your equipment use to date.

  • Copies of productions made with CCTV gear must be broadcast on our channels.
  • There can be no form of payment, funding, for the producer of the program from any souce.
  • Sole ownership of the program must be held by the producer.

The Production Contract

The key piece of community production at CCTV is this Production Contract. This is an agreement between you and us that clearly states you get to use our cameras, lights, mics, editors, and live studio facilities, but only with the understanding that anything you produce must be cablecast on CCTV's channels.

There are three different classifications of contracts.
