The high price of television.

I recently blogged about my concerns with the cost of cable in Cambridge and lack of the FIOS alternative from Verizon. I spoke with a Verizon representative who said Verizon would love to have FIOS in Cambridge if negotiations were agreeable.

This is Verizon's traditional line, that it *can't* come into various communities because it is too hard to negotiate licenses. But the City Manager has invited Verizon to provide FIOS in Cambridge, and it is unwilling. You can read all about Verizon's ongoing attempt to change the state's cable regs here.

In another really interesting development, the FCC ruled yesterday that the City of Boston can regulate Comcast's lowest rate tier. You can read about that here. In the final paragraph of the print article in the Globe, a consultant says that if Comcast is forced to lower its rates on one tier, it is likely to raise rates in another.
