Come to Belmont Town Hall at 8 PM Tonight! (June 7) "Save Alewife Resources"
Monday, June 7, 2010 at 8:00 PM at Belmont Town Hall
Ellen Mass, President of the Friends of Alewife Reservation, has been a big fan of the Buzz & Ruby saga. But these Red-tails, along with all the plants and animals in that area, are in serious jeopardy. A huge developer has won a very expensive and drawn out legal battle with the local towns and is ready to bulldoze a very unique and strategic forest in Belmont bordering Cambridge and Arlington. This will have devastating ecological effects on the whole Alewife area. We need your presence and strong voices at a town meeting in Belmont Town Hall this Monday, June 7th at 8:15 PM. Do it for Buzz, Ruby, Lucy, Larry, and Lucky and all the life around the Alewife Reservation.

TO: Friends of Red Tail Hawks
From: Friends of Alewife Reservation
Dear Friends,
The red-tails are here because of the Mall birds and open space, but primarily because of Fresh Pond and Alewife Reservation.
The birds use the Alewife silver maple forest for rodents and small mammals which are plentiful in the forest. We have seen the falcons and hawks there many times, as we know they are common birds.
However, the rare silver maple forest may be cut down because a Pennsylvania developer is determined to make a mint in Belmont and Cambridge, bordering Arlington as well and impacting the entire Mystic River watershed to the Boston Harbor.
Please consider coming for a few minutes, Monday, June 7th to Belmont Town Hall to show the Selectmen many care about our regional open spaces, and especially a floodplain forest. The Belmont Conservation Commission supports this endeavor to protect its floodplain and Winn Brook neighborhood.
However, the Selectmen may not listen if we do not come to hear the Uplands case and show its regional worth.
Agenda time is 8:00.
