Community Support for the Local Haitian Community
A message from Dennis Keefe, CEO, Cambridge Health Alliance:
As the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti continues to evolve, we wanted to take this opportunity provide you an update on the resources available for our community.
Tonight, Cambridge Health Alliance will be hosting a community forum at our Windsor Street Health Center, 119 Windsor Street, Cambridge. The forum is from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the 2nd floor meeting room. The goal of the forum is to let members have the opportunity to share their feelings and thoughts about the earthquake in Haiti. Cambridge Health Alliance providers, including mental health, will be on-site to provide support. Representatives from the Community Affairs Department and the Cambridge Public Health Department will also be on-site for support. In addition, Claude Jacob, Chief Public Health Officer for the City of Cambridge, has arranged for Emmanuelle Dupiton, Haitian Consulate of Boston, to be present to share what resources the consulate can make available to all members. The consulate has also released its list of agencies who are already on-site. These agencies are:
American Red Cross, Americacares, Catholic Relief Services, CARE, Direct Relief International, Doctors Without Borders, International Relief Teams, Mercy Corps, Operation Blessing International, Operation USA, Partners in Health, Save the Children, Shelterbox, UNICEF USA, World Concern, World Food Programme, World Vision, Yéle Haiti
We have also heard that Oxfam America (www.oxfamamerica.org) is actively organizing relief efforts as well.
A patient line has been established for those who would like to seek mental health services at Cambridge Health Alliance. The number is 617-665-3980 and is posted on our websites (both staffnet and challiance.org) and has been shared with the Cambridge Health Alliance telephone operators.
Lastly, Cambridge Health Alliance is actively collaborating with the municipalities within our primary service area. The City of Somerville will be hosting a community forum tomorrow, Friday, January 15th at the Healey School at 5:30 p.m. The M-CREW area is collaborating on a multi-municipality community forum. A date has not be set for this yet but we will share it with you as soon as it is available.
Our thoughts and hopes are with all of you and all who are in Haiti as we go through this very difficult time.
