CCTV Focus Groups Underway

CCTV's Media + Technology focus groups are meeting today to ask the Cambridge community what issues they feel are most important to residents' livelihood. This morning, 20 representatives of local arts and cultural organizations met to discuss the future of community media and brainstorm how these issues could and should be addressed by the PEG (Public, Educational, and Government) channels provided by Comcast. The city is up for their cable license renewal and the process will open new opportunities to:

build community through TV, media and technology
access media services regardless of economic circumstances
update and improve the production facilities at CCTV
create, use and distribute media
take classes targeted at youth, adults and seniors
create local news, arts and entertainment programming by the community for the community.

The Franchise/Renewal process will assure that the cable operators pays adequate rent for its commercial use of public property and provides an opportunity to undertake a communications planning process that improves community media services for residents, schools, civic and community organizations.

If you'd like to participate, consider filling out an online survey to help us determine the future of community media in Cambridge! http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=8lWosmhxKpclDkymZHGWYQ_3d_3d
