Mini wind farm on the Charles

The Museum of Science has completed its installation of wind turbines on it's roof. There are five different models in place, including a bank of five on the highest edge facing upstream. According to the David Rabkin who is overseeing the project for the museum, the two that have been in place since the spring have gone through their calibrations and adjustments, and are steadily producing electricity. When the newly installed generators are similarly tested and approved, the museum will set up a display on the lower lever showing real time wind speed and power generation data as well as more general performance data.

It is hoped that the data gathered through this demonstration project will be used by planners, architects, contractors and property owners considering renewable energy installations. The museum-top generators will feed power into the local grid, but while producing enough power for a few modest homes, it won't come close to covering the museum's own power needs.
