I recently finished my AmeriCorps CTC*VISTA term at CCTV; over the past year, I helped to start up new community media projects for the access channels and website in Cambridge. Here at CCTV, we launched NeighborMedia, a project that embedded citizen journalists throughout the neighborhoods of the city to address a need for hyperlocal programming. I also started up Youth View Cambridge, a youth news program at Cambridge Educational Access (CEA) that I'll be continuing to work on in the fall.
As a broadcast journalism student at Boston University, I learned about a news media industry in turmoil. Network news stations are struggling for ratings because people are no longer willing to sit back and consume: they want their voices to be heard.
What I love about the projects I've been involved with is the opportunity to give residents of all ages the skills they need to expose the issues they care about.
This age of multimedia and new communications technologies knows no limits. Censorship is not an option. In the public access realm, every individual who wishes to speak out about an issue is able to do so.
So please blog away on our new website, and leave me comments if you're also interested in any of this stuff! (And how could you not be? Community media is where it's at!) :)
Wow! That sounds like a very cool project. If you need help, let me know.
I'm working on a new site to aggregate, filter & distribute local news and citizen journalism. It's called 9 Neighbors, and you can find a very early alpha version on Facebook here.
I'll keep an eye on n2n and make sure we link to the stuff you guys produce. Let me know if there are other ways we might be able to help.

This weekend WAS a great start Julie! Thanks for all of your effort in getting us on track. I wonder if I should start blogging - for this Bee's got much to say. I am ready for NeighborMedia and look forward to the stories the crew will create!
