Billy Wilder's follow up to Some Like It Hot is his crowning achievement, winning him three Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay) and the film two additional others.
Jack Lemmon (in an Academy Award nominated role) plays C.C. Baxter, a struggling nobody at an insurance firm in New York City. Knowing that he won't be able to be recognized in the vicious business world, he offers his Upper West Side apartment to four of his managers to use for extra-marital affairs on the sly. Though it inconveniences C.C. to no end, he realizes that it is his only way to be able to climb the corporate ladder. He lives with the fact that his neighbors think that he's a "good time Charlie" and even goes so far as to try and accept that the girl of his dreams, elevator operator Fran Kubelik (Shirley MacClaine, also nominated for her performance by the Academy), is one of his manager's mistresses. But as the lies and deception keep piling up, can C.C. Baxter continue this charade?
