Big Screen Classics: DR. STRANGELOVE OR: HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB

Mon, 07/16/2012 - 19:00

What do psychotic General Jack D. Ripper, Peter Sellers as British Royal Air Force Officer Group Captain Lionel Mandrake, a womanizing George C. Scott, Peter Sellers as the President of the United States Merkin Muffley, Slim Pickens as King Kong, Peter Sellers as a Nazi doctor who wants nothing more than ten females to each male, The Doomsday Device, and Darth Vader all have in common?

Stanley Kubrick.

The year was 1964, John F. Kennedy had recently been assassinated, the Vietnam and Cold War were in full swing, and the Civil Rights Bill passed, so what better way to commemorate an era than with a satire on all that is holy?

To try and summarize this film would be a lesson in futility - the theatrical trailer itself is 3 1/2 minutes long - so best to come experience the third best film comedy on the American Film Institute's list of 100 Years...100 Laughs for yourself in a theatre filled with like-minded individuals.
