Video Festival Committee Meeting, August 21st

Video Festival Planning Update

Meeting Minutes

At tonight's meeting (8/21) we discussed these topics and came to the following conclusions/suggestions/questions:

Ten minutes or less (in keeping with last year)
Entry format in DVD/NTSC (keep it simple and easy to work with)
Need to clarify parameters of free speech in regard to theme/fest. If it's too general does the free speech tag become a paper tiger?

Create a videofest blog within cctvcambridge.org to drive traffic to CCTV

Announce fest online asap via withoutabox.com, craigslist, cctv and nefilm.com, to be followed up with physical flyers/posters locally

Suggestion of six prizes/categories including four in member/non-member, fiction/non-fiction, and a youth category broken into fiction/non-fiction only. This would give us a potential for a 60-70 minute back to back 1st prizewinner only viewing during the actual fest, with potential for all-inclusive q&a at the end.
Update last year's entry form and make it downloadable.

Other things to think about:
Outreach to other public access channels for networking.
Show all winners including possible 2nd and 3rd prizes as part of programming, and online at cctv and/or blip.tv

Potential Judges: local filmmakers Tracy Heather Strain, Kris Britt Montag, and Jocelyn Glatzer, as well as IFFB Operations Manager and Chlotrudis film appreciation member Nancy Campbell.

We also have Nancy, and Independent Film Festival of Boston co-founders Scott Moomaw and Jason Redmond available in an advisory capacity if needed.

I look forward to hammering out the details with you this coming Tuesday!

Next Festival Planning Meeting: August 28th, 6 p.m.

Goal: to finalize the rules, criteria, theme and title so that we can make an official announcement for entries asap.

MCT Budget Approved

I just wanted to let the committee know that the board approved the capital budget last week at the board meeting. Good work everyone on the research. And I can't wait to see how the new Princeton Server Group machine works!

Portable Cameras for 2007 (photo and video)

From Joed:

"Here is the camera I was looking at to replace the Optura:
Panasonic PV-GS180 3 CCD Mini DV Camcorder, 10x Optical/700x Digital Zoom, 2.3 Mega Pixel CCD, Color Viewfinder, 2.5" LCD Screen
The higher up models don’t have Headphone jacks. Weird. Again, I have no experience with it, but the teacher at BAA uses it with his teens, and the B&H sales guy said this is the suggested comparable model to the Optura.
As far as Digital Cameras go, I did not get too far. The Canon A630 looks like a great camera for the money, but it is based on a card system and a AA battery supply. What are the most important qualities would you say for the camera that is purchased? SLR vs. point and shoot; manual settings; scan card vs. other memory.

Joe Douillette"

MCT Meeting 1

Nov 8 2006 - 7:00pm
Nov 8 2006 - 9:00pm

This is our first meeting for the 2007 capital budget. Come prepared to talk about the future of our technology at CCTV. Hope to see you there.

First Meeting

Our first meeting looks like Nov 8, 7PM.
Things we'll discuss on that day are:

- Overview of our committee's responsibilities
- Looking over our ten year capital plan
- Looking over last year's capital plan
- Delegating some research to committee members
- Brainstorming for new technologies to implement
- Suggestions for upgrades/replacements of old gear.

First meeting proposal, and more...

Hi folks,

Its that time of year when this board/mac committee meets to plan CCTV’s technology needs for 2007. In the end, we present a plan to the board for buying and replacing all aspects of our technology. Along the way we get to decide on stuff like new software, cameras, studio gear, cable systems technology, new tele and web services, etc, and try to prioritize it all within a nicely approvable budget. The board of directors will then take our considerations and budget proposal and make a call.

We only do this once per year, and we have to approve the budget before the year end so that we can start purchasing on Jan 1 if we have to. We should get started on this fairly soon.

Here are a couple of proposed dates, please get in touch and let me know what works best for you:

Wed, Nov 1, 7PM
Tues, Nov 7, 7PM
Wed, Nov 8, 7PM
Suggest your own

Since we are the people responsible for planning our technological future, I'm going to try out some experimental technology with our committee.
