CCTV's NeighborMedia Project & More

blogpic.jpg

Hi! I'm Julie Adler, the new addition to the CCTV team, and as a CTC*VISTA for the upcoming year I'm starting up new community media projects for the access channels and website in Cambridge. Here at CCTV, we are launching Cambridge NeighborMedia (formerly known as Neighbor 2 Neighbor), which will embed citizen journalists throughout the neighborhoods of the city to address our need for local and "hyperlocal" programming. When the school year starts up, I'll also be working to develop youth news programming for Cambridge Educational Access (CEA). read more...

Margaret's HTML Tricks

For those who wish to incorporate multiple photos into a blog entry, Margaret Desjardins put together a special HTML formatting chart for NeighborMedia bloggers awhile back. You can also use Margaret's cheat sheet for the basics, like:

  • making bold or italic type
  • linking to another URL
  • bulleted lists, such as this one
  • resizing text

  • and, of course, the colored text Margaret is famous for.

Bookmark it and use it to get started.

If you want to further explore the world of HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), check CCTV's class schedule for the Intro to HTML and Dreamweaver course.

More Than a Media Fair

It's hard to believe that it's been almost a full school year since we launched "Youth View Cambridge." Where did the time go? As the CEA Media Fair proved on Tuesday night, the weeks and months since last October have been well spent.

Cambridge Educational Access opened its doors at the Media Arts Studio in 2005 with little to no programming, and it has grown into a dynamic channel that features several hours per day of student-produced work.

Yet as the media fair came to a close earlier this week, it was not the programming that really stuck out in our minds: it was the bond that had been formed between students through the process of making that media. As the students reiterated during the next day's YVC shoot (the last one of the season), we at CEA -- staff, student reporters and work-study crew -- have become "a family."

Spring into NeighborMedia!

You'll need a big bottle of eyedrops to make it through all of Karen Klinger's Cambridge eyesores featured on the latest monthly installment of NeighborMedia.

Kicking off RYMAEC

rymaec.jpg

Sure, it's a mouthful to say "Regional Youth Media Arts Education Consortium." While no one necessarily expected the name to stick, project coordinator Joe Douillette says the acronym RYMAEC (pronounced RYE-mac) did. So when it came time to advertise the kick-off event at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) on Tuesday evening, Joe made sure to include a pronunciation key on the postcards.

For those who don't know Joe, he runs the Fast Forward youth media program at the ICA, and he's also CCTV's outgoing board president. With RYMAEC.org (built by CCTV's own Sean Effel) as a backdrop, he introduced youth media educators from Boston and beyond to the concept, story and infastructure behind RYMAEC. Check out Joe's re-cap of the event here. read more...
