SWAN, an organization created for women to share their art, will be celebrating a year of tremendous growth with their second annual SWAN day festival, March 26th through 28th at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center.

“Last year was the first year and now it’s in every country you can think of, which is really fabulous in one year to grow that fast,” says Emily Beattie, dancer, performance art curator, and organizer of the event.

SWAN, which stands for support women artists now, originated with a group of female filmmakers and critics who felt there was a need to incorporate women more in the industry.

The organization has grown immensely from this idea, and has trickled down to every facet of artist mediums.

This year’s festival will feature a huge diversity of performances including film, slam poetry, improvised dance, cabaret style music, violin, and piano.

“We want to give a taste of all the talents here in Cambridge,” says Beattie. read more...
