Demographics Cambridge is an ethnically and socio-economically diverse city. 32% of the residents are people of color. Fourteen percent are African-American; 8% are Asian; 7% are of Latino background; and 3% are of other races including Native American Indian. Since 1980, many newcomers have arrived from Haiti and other parts of the Caribbean, Portugal, Cape Verde, Brazil, the Azores and the countries of Central America and Southeast Asia. Students from 64 nationalities attend public schools here; their families speak 46 different languages. It is important to note that these US Census statistics do not accurately reflect the full diversity of Cambridge, as we are also a sanctuary city and there are many undocumented refugees who live here. This complex tapestry is appreciated by Cambridge residents, yet there are few institutions that successfully serve the many different constituencies. Intrinsic to the mission of CCTV is the belief that diverse cultural communities must have the knowledge and skills to participate fully and equally in public discourse.

CCTV Constituents CCTV's constituency covers the full diversity of this city. Members and viewers include Cambridge residents of all ages, classes, racial and cultural communities, and physical abilities. When we find communities under-represented in our membership, we develop targeted outreach efforts. The staff, Board of Directors, and Member Advisory Group reflect the diversity of the city and all have input on the direction of the organization. Community involvement is key to the success of CCTV. Community organizing efforts include a process of identifying underserved communities, and soliciting input from community leaders, residents, and city and school representatives on community needs. Community representatives are then involved in planning, program development, implementation, and evaluation of special projects. Once at the station, groups from across the neighborhoods have the opportunity to work together. In this way, a rich array of collaborations between individuals, organizations and community groups across the City of Cambridge has greatly contributed to our community building goals.

Collaborations and Outreach CCTV has designed our programs in collaboration with many Cambridge institutions and community based organizations, local artists, and cultural groups, who have helped plan and successfully implement many projects. CCTV outreach projects have underscored both the local and international scope of our activities. Our successful efforts include outreach projects to the Spanish-, Portuguese-, and Haitian Creole-speaking communities of Cambridge, youth, and seniors. As a result, we now have programming produced and shown at CCTV for these constituents.
