Cambridge Community Television holds free public information sessions for community members and aspiring videomakers. This is a chance to learn about public access television, CCTV member privileges and available resources, and meet others interested in community media. This is the first step to becoming a CCTV Member.

Registrations are accepted on a first-come basis. Early registration is advised since courses may fill up or be canceled due to low enrollment; in addition, computer courses are limited to just 5 students to allow each student their own computer. Access Members with sufficient voucher balance may register over the phone (617) 661-6900; all others must provide full payment at the time of registration.

Manuals are optional at CCTV. But for those who like to read up as preparation or review after their classes, CCTV has course manuals. You can purchase them for just $15 each, or borrow them for one month with a refundable deposit. Ask for them at CCTV's front desk.

Edit I introduces students to the theory and tools of video editing. Session 1 introduces students to the history and principles of film/video editing by viewing and discussing excerpts ranging from feature films to commercials. See how editors compose, manipulate, arrange, and layer images and sounds for powerful effect. Sessions 2 and 3 are spent exploring Apple’s professional grade video editing software, Finl Cut Pro. Students will learn about the digital editing process, from capturing footage to printing the final product back to tape, and all the steps in between. Sound quality and a thoughtful mix of dialogue, music, and effects are crucial to the overall impression made by any video production. The first part of this course will explore tools in Final Cut Pro that can be used to fix common audio problems. The second part will provide an introduction to the creative use of music and sound effects through example clips. Students will be shown how to create their own score with Apple's Soundtrack Pro, and will also be given additional sources for copyright-safe audio. Each part includes and in-class project.
