Drupal Installation and Configuration
We discuss installation requirements, web hosting practices, data management, configuration, and a tour of fully functioning base features. This component is excellent for new users.
Core Systems and Modules
Building an understanding of Drupal's advanced features requires that you wrap your head around its basic foundation. These are the first building blocks in a Drupal project, such as: Users, roles and access control system; nodes and fields; content management; blocks and menus; tagging with taxonomy; the file system; RSS; and a slew more.
Contributed Modules
Contributed modules extend the functionality of Drupal and our Contributed Modules components will teach you how to use the most versatile and flexible tools offered on top of Drupal. This begins with a discussion on identifying, researching and selecting contributed modules for use on your Drupal sites. We quickly move forward to demonstrate and discuss Image, CCK, Views, Panels, Organic Groups and more.
Theme Installation and Development
Themes are what set your new Drupal website aside from all the other Drupal users in the world. No Drupal training should exclude a solid discussion how to brand and style your site to distinguish it from the rest. This includes understanding the theme engine, transforming HTML templates into Drupal themes, Custom themes for nodes, blocks, content types, views and more.
Drupal Project Management
This component covers the life span of your Drupal website development from conceptualizing the project to maintaining and upgrading the project after launch. Topics for discussion are preproduction's best practices, finding and hiring Drupal talent, planning for custom development, upgrading Drupal and its modules, etc.
Technology Policy
These are BYOT (bring your own technology) style classes and we encourage you to bring whatever materials suit you best for learning in a classroom environment. Some students have found it very helpful to have a working installation of Drupal either on their own laptops to try examples as the material is covered. You could register for an inexpensive hosting service that preconfigures Drupal for you (we have recommendations, contact us). We also recommend using MAMP (Mac) or XAMPP (Win) to emulate a server on your own laptop in order to run Drupal locally on a laptop. Please do your own research before you try either option. We are happy if this method suits you but note that we will troubleshoot any technical problems that you have on your own technology.
Enrollment Policy
Unless other arrangements are made, our workshops require advanced registration and payment to attend. Enrollment fees must be in good standing at the start of the workshop or attendees will not be admitted.
Cancellation Policy
If you cancel enrollment up to seven days prior to the workshop you will be refunded your enrollment fees minus a $25 admin fee. If you cancel within seven days of the workshop we cannot refund any portion of your enrollment fee. These policies enable us to carefully balance travel, location, expense and other costs and provide reliable services to our students.
