CCTV membership numbers fluctuate throughout the course
of the year. At midyear there were 529 active members. There were
378 individual Access Members (Cambridge residents, people working
with a Cambridge organization, or interns) and 30 Cambridge-based
Access Organizational Members. There were 102 individual Affiliate
Members and 19 Affiliate Organizations (Cambridge residency is not
required for Affiliate members).
Some fun facts about CCTV ’s members taken from
the midyear data:
• Nearly half were
returning members
•
6%
of CCTV’s
members identified themselves as seniors (60+)
•
37% resided
in the 02139 zip code
• 49 organizations
were members
•
1 of every 15
members pledged to volunteer time at the station
• In addition,
there were 49 interns working at CCTV on a regular basis
Nearly 40% of all CCTV members current at the end of
2006 were producers of programs for the channels. Some of our individual
members also joined together in production groups that met regularly
to collaborate on programming.
The Women Making Media production group was active
in 2006, organizing skill-building workshops for members and producing
videos on topics including the La Rivolta! Women’s Music Festival
at MassArt. Former Membership Coordinator Jennifer Schmitt facilitated
the group. We hope the group will continue in 2007 and are looking
at ways to support its activities.
The You Are Here News group is a member-driven success
story. Founded early in 2005, this group of motivated CCTV members
has consistently produced high-quality, informative citizen journalism.
Every half-hour “newsmagazine” is composed of multiple
segments that are interspersed with shots of Cambridge and its denizens.
You Are Here took home multiple awards from the Alliance for Community
Media ’s 2006 Northeast Regional Competition.
