Benefit Party for On The Rise

For a special holiday event that combines food, fun, and charity, On The Rise, Inc. of Cambridge is sponsoring an evening cocktail party at the Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge on Tuesday, December 7 at 6 p.m. The lounge, a local restaurant and nightlife center, is located near MIT at 315 Massachusetts Avenue.

“This is a New Friend event,” said Martha Sandler, executive director of On The Rise, based at 341 Broadway. “We want people to get to know who and where we are and the scope of our work.”

On The Rise supports women who are homeless or in crisis by offering a day-time refuge where they can eat, shower, do laundry, make phone calls and even receive mail. It is a place where they can find a community that helps and supports them.

“We would like to thank the Middlesex Lounge for opening its doors to our organization,” Sandler said. “We offer a very unique service to a community of women who have been marginalized and are in need of a safe haven.”

Appetizers are included in the $20 admission fee, which will be donated to On The Rise. There is a cash bar. The event concludes at 9 p.m., but guests are urged to stay and dance to a DJ spinning discs from the ‘80s and ‘90s.
